Deep wrinkles don’t appear — and small daily habits can make a real difference in how quickly they form and deepen. are an inevitable part of ageing. We can embrace and celebrate them as a sign of a life well lived, or, if we don’t like how they look, we can take action. This can involve lifestyle changes to prevent them from turning into deep wrinkles, and aesthetic procedures to reduce their appearance. Some of our favourite treatments are with , Secret PRO, Morpheus8 – impressive devices that we explain in more detail below! At-home Methods Apply sunscreen: UV rays from the sun damage fibres in the skin which leads to the formation of wrinkles. By applying daily, and topping up throughout the day if it’s sunny, you can help stop deep wrinkles from appearing. Reduce alcohol intake: drinking alcohol can reduce the level of vitamins in skin, as well as sending your collagen into decline. This means your skin will look drier, saggier and more wrinkled. Cutting back before you notice these changes can make a big difference to your long-term appearance. Eat a balanced diet: it’s no secret that eating healthily has a significant impact on our appearance. In particular, excessive consumption of sugar causes a process called glycation, whereby important collagen and elastin proteins are damaged, leading to deep and aged skin. Eat a nutrient-dense diet low in sugar to keep your skin looking good for longer. Stop smoking: as one of the main contributors to aged skin, quitting smoking should be top of your list if you want to avoid deep wrinkles! The chemicals in tobacco increase something known as your matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which degrade collagen and elastin, leading to significant wrinkling. There’s plenty of resources online that can help you quit smoking, but don’t be afraid to reach out to your GP for support if you’re struggling. Cleanse skin daily: pollution, sweat, make-up and general dirt aren’t great for your skin quality, so aim to wash away the grime morning and evening. At Pure Perfection Clinic, we love the – get in touch and we’ll help you find the best cleanser for your skin type! Approaches Making lifestyle changes is a great way to prevent deep wrinkles forming, but what do you do if you’ve already got them? Or you may wonder, are there clinical treatments that can go a few steps further? The answer is, quite simply, absolutely! Anti-wrinkle injections: probably the most well-known way to reduce wrinkles, injection of a substance called will temporarily freeze the muscles that contribute to wrinkle formation, leaving you with a smooth appearance for the next few months. As this a prescription-only treatment, a thorough consultation must take place before any procedure takes place. Morpheus8: combining both radiofrequency technology and micro-needling to stimulate collagen production, the state-of-the-art Morpheus8 treatment is a real gamechanger for deep wrinkles. Not only will you see them reduce in appearance, but your surrounding skin will be firmer and tighter too. The procedure takes less than hour, is not too painful as we’ll use topical anaesthetic to numb the area treated, and results will continue to improve over time. Thread lifts: as the name suggests, resorbable are inserted under your skin to lift sagging, unfold wrinkles and give you a more youthful . We use Thread Lifts, which are clinically proven to provide long lasting results of up to two years. Results will be noticeable immediately, but you may experience some redness and swelling for up to a week. The skin under your mask can get ‘sweaty’ and damp from the moisture in your breath and makes you susceptible to acne breakouts and irritation. what-is-the-best-treatment-for-jowls-without-surgery
What Is the Best Treatment for Jowls Without Surgery? What Is the Best Treatment for Jowls Without Surgery? Find out about it in our aesthetic clinic based in Esher, Surrey Jowls are one of the most common concerns we see at Revital Lab in Esher, and they tend to develop gradually. Patients often tell us they feel their face looks heavier, their jawline less defined, and that they look older or more tired than they feel. The question we are usually asked is whether anything can be done without surgery. In many cases, it can. The key is choosing a treatment that addresses the underlying cause rather than simply trying to disguise it. This is where treatments such as are changing how we approach the lower face. What Causes Jowls? Jowls are not caused by a single issue. They develop as a result of several changes happening at the same time. As we age, the skin produces less collagen and elastin. This leads to a loss of and the skin becomes more prone to sagging. At the same time, deeper structures in the face begin to shift. Fat pads descend and ligaments weaken, which contributes to heaviness around the jawline. In some patients, there is also a component of localised fat in the lower face, which can further soften the jawline and make jowls more noticeable. Because of this combination of skin laxity, descent and sometimes fat accumulation, treating jowls requires a more considered approach. Why This Is Such a Common Concern The jawline plays a significant role in how the face is perceived. A well-defined jawline is often associated with youth and structure, so even subtle changes can make a noticeable difference. We are also seeing more patients becoming aware of these changes earlier. This is partly due to increased exposure to photos and video, but also because patients are more informed about what can be treated. What most people are looking for now is not a change, but a natural improvement. They want to look fresher, with better definition, without it being obvious they have had treatment. What Are the Most Effective Non-Surgical Treatments for Jowls? When treating jowls, the most effective options are those that improve structure and tighten the skin, rather than simply adding volume. Dermal can be useful in earlier stages, particularly where there is mild volume loss. By restoring support in the mid-face or along the jawline, they can improve contour and reduce the appearance of early jowling. However, fillers do not tighten skin. If skin laxity is the main issue, relying on filler alone can be limiting and, in some cases, can add heaviness to the lower face if overused. For this reason, fillers tend to be more appropriate in younger patients or in milder cases. For patients with more noticeable jowls or skin laxity, Endodefine is often a more suitable and effective option. Endodefine is a minimally invasive, laser-assisted treatment that works beneath the skin using a fine microfibre. It allows us to controlled laser energy directly into the tissue. This has a dual effect. It stimulates collagen production, which improves skin firmness and elasticity over time, and it also helps to break down small of fat in the lower face. At the same time, the heat from the laser causes a degree of immediate tissue contraction. This combination allows us to tighten the skin, improve structure, and refine the contour of the jawline in a way that cannot be achieved with alone. Why Endodefine Is Often the Best Option In practice, the most consistent results for jowls come from addressing skin laxity directly. Endodefine stands out it works at a deeper level than most non-surgical treatments. Rather than adding volume, it focuses on tightening and restructuring the tissue, which is often the primary issue. Another advantage is that it can also reduce subtle fullness in the lower face by targeting fat, which further improves definition. The overall effect is a more sculpted jawline that still looks natural. Results develop gradually as collagen production increases, so there is no sudden or artificial change in appearance. For many patients, this offers a balance between noticeable improvement and a natural result. Can Endodefine Be Combined with Dermal Fillers? Yes, and in many cases this is where we can achieve the best results. Endodefine addresses skin laxity and helps to tighten and contour the lower face. Once this foundation is improved, dermal fillers can be used more precisely to structure where needed. For example, after tightening the tissue with Endodefine, small amounts of filler can be used to support the jawline or mid-face without creating heaviness. Using the treatments in this order is important. Treating the skin first allows us to use less filler and achieve a more refined, natural outcome. What to Expect from Treatment Treatment always begins with a consultation, where we assess your facial structure, the degree of skin laxity, and your overall goals. Endodefine is a invasive procedure and is generally well tolerated. Compared to surgery, downtime is significantly reduced, which is an important factor for many patients. Results are not immediate, as they rely on collagen stimulation and tissue remodelling. Improvements become more noticeable over the following weeks and continue to develop over time. Final Thoughts Jowls are a natural part of the ageing process, but they can be effectively without surgery in many cases. The key is choosing a treatment that addresses the underlying cause. For patients with skin laxity and changes in facial structure, Endodefine offers a way to tighten, contour and improve definition at a deeper level. Dermal fillers still have a role, particularly in earlier stages or as part of a combined approach, but they are not always the best standalone solution for more established jowls. A personalised treatment plan will always give the best results. By combining the right techniques in the right way, it is possible to restore a more defined and balanced appearance without the need for surgery. Do You Have Any Questions?
